About Metropolitan State College of Denver

Metropolitan State College of Denver, also referred to as simply Metro State or informally MSCD or Metro, is a four-year college located in Denver, which is the capital and the most populous city in Colorado state, USA, having a population estimated at a number of more than 610 000 inhabitants, during the 2009 census, fact which also makes it the 24th most populous city in the country.


MSCD was established in 1965, and is noted for a wide array of liberal arts and sciences programs, also being recognized for its teacher education, business, aviation, and criminal justice programs. The college currently has an enrollment of more than 20 700 students, the second largest enrollment of undergraduates of any college in the state. Metro State offers its students 50 majors and 80 minors to choose from, in various areas of study.


Athletics

Metro State's athletic teams are known as the Roadrunners, who compete in NCAA Division II, in several sport for both men and women. Their distinctive colors are berry and navy and their mascot is Rowdy the Roadrunner.


Notable Alumni

MSCD's noteworthy alumni are: Philip Bailey - a member of the band Earth, Wind & Fire, David Barlow - Australian Olympic basketball player, Hugo Teufel III - 2nd Chief Privacy Officer, Department of Homeland Security in the Government of the United States, Michael J. Varhola - American author and publisher, Mark Worthington - Australian Olympic basketball player, and Candi Kubeck - Captain of ValuJet Flight 592, which crashed into the Florida Everglades on May 11, 1996.
